The Greatest Cars in Hollywood

January 28th, 2013

Here’s an infographic we thought would be good to pass on …

From the original site:

Nothing’s better in a movie than a great car chase. Remember Steve McQueen navigating the streets of San Francisco in that 1968 Mustang GT 390 in Bullitt? Many call that the greatest movie car chase ever, and the vehicles in it were pretty close to what you could buy off the lot. Sometimes, however, heroes need a little something “extra” from their movie or television cars. Check out the infographic below to see some film favorites and the Hollywood enhancements that took them over the top.

BC’s 90 Year Hangover

June 14th, 2011

June 15, 2011 is the 90th Anniversary of the repeal of prohibition in BC and the establishment of government control of the sale of liquor within the province. The BC prohibition commenced on October 1, 1917. It was soon judged a failure, resulting in law-abiding citizens becoming criminals for simply wanting to have a drink with their dinner. Following a referendum, prohibition was repealed on June 15, 1921. On the same date, a “government control” system was implemented for the sale of liquor within the province.

It is the 90th anniversary and the government monopoly Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) still controls and sells all liquor within BC at the wholesale level and still sells a vast amount through its government retail stores which have extremely high operating costs. The LDB is a $3 billion per year business in B.C. It generates about $900 million per year for the government but costs about $300 million per year to operate. Read the rest of this entry »

The Bon Mot Book Club – Sarah Palin

October 14th, 2010

Sarah Palin’s memoir traces her life from growing up in the wilds of Alaska to her decision to enter politics. She talks about the importance of faith and family and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother.

As governor of Alaska, Palin implemented changes other politicians talked about: energy independence, ethics reform, and the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history.

During the US Presidential campaign, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Supporters called her “refreshing” and honest,” a kitchen-table public servant they felt would fight for their interest. Opponents derided her as a wide-eyed Pollyanna unprepared for national leadership. A big player in the U.S. midterms just weeks after this event, meet Palin in person and judge for yourself.

The Bon Mot Book Club event was well-attended by the veritable who’s who of the Vancouver’s upper society. Seen at the event were Olga Ilich and Lorne Mayencourt of the British Columbia Liberal Party, Martin Zlotnik of the ZLC Financial Group, and Edward McGurk of the Vancouver Community Challenge.
