The Walrus Foundation Fundraiser
The Walrus, recently named Magazine of the Year, is a monthly publication of ideas, sophistication, and wit, and a place where readers, writers, and artists meet.

On Tuesday, October 9th, the The Walrus Foundation, publisher of The Walrus Magazine, Came to Town and held a fundraiser themed ‘Go North Young Man’ at the SFU School of Business on Granville Street.
There were many enjoyable and surprising moments at the evening event:
- Ken Alexander, editor of The Walrus, hosted a lively on-stage conversation with Shaw TV’s Fanny Kiefer
- Poets extraordinaire Patrick Lane and Lorna Crozier entertained the audience with what else, other than poetry
- best-selling author of Intent for a Nation, Michael Byers, addressed the adoring crowd
- CBC host Shelagh Rogers and actor Tim Butler staged a reading of scenes from Big Ticket, a play by Jim Garrard
- and finally, Molly Johnson gave a sensational jazz performance

The event’s post-reception, hosted by World-renowned chef Rob Feenie and the fabulous Lumière, took place at the Vancouver Art Gallery, with a unique silent auction, music by the master pianist Stephan Moccio, a book signing by Intent for a Nation author, Michael Byers, and an exhibit by Georgia O’Keeffe.
Throughout the post-reception, attendees bid on priceless items including an opportunity to become a character in a future work of fiction by well known Canadian novelists. Everyone who attended also received a fabulous gift bag including the coveted Special November 2007 Arctic Issue of Walrus Magazine. No one left the $150/person event disappointed.
