For sure! This site will start to take off in the next couple of days — just working out all the little stuff first. Sorta like that Google Calendar feature we just added to the Urban Mixer city sites… It’s up and running but a wee bit buggy.
A truly delightful evening…filled with great food, amazing wines and even better company. All in all, a success for the steering team…with all of the food being donated by Rare, the Hamilton St. Grill, Parkside, C/Fuel and Salt Tasting Room. I have never been to a fundraiser where 100% of all revenues went to the beneficiary. Great job Tim, Brian, Neil, Sean, Colin, Robert and all of the other volunteers who served us this evening.
I’m a Sikh from Punjab. The story of the movie Partition is a copy of original story “BUTA SINGH”. The storyline of “Partition” is misdirected. The photography, music and distorted story of “Buta Singh” is also of C grade. Overall, the director and script writer has just done a great injustice to the beautiful story. In a nutshell this movie is not worth watching and Vic has tried to cash in on the anti Muslim sentiment of the West.
What an amazing event. Great job on the organization and was by far my favourite event I have attended so far here in Vancouver. Looking forward to you topping it in March!

I have a great respect for VIC SARIN and his work in the movie bussiness. This man and his family are highly cultured with highest level of moral ethics and compassion for humanity. What I know of him, He is a great man. Last comment by Sarabjit Mann of February 10, 2007 shows a useless comment and throwing mud on a spotless character. Before making such a low class comment like “cash in” Mr.Sarabjit should have spent some time to view Vic’s past work and quality. Yes there are many movies show similar themes but each and every one has its own speciality and message for the viewer. Please give him the credit He deserves for his hard work. In my view “Partition” is well worth watching and I am proud of his work and detication. Keep up the good work Vic, We love you. Kuldeep Ohri-Canada(AB)
Partition is a great story and well woth watching.
Kuldeep Singh (Dave) Ohri February 19th, 2007 at 7:28 pm
What a wonderful story. It touched my heart and soul. Thumbs up performance. Story shows pain, sacrefice and one’s belief in love and do the right thing. This shows Vic’s hard work and dedication to what he believes in. I hope you have more stories to share with the world. All actors chosen were excellent and genuine. Keep up the good work Vic.
The fauna screamed Vancouver! Never seen a redwood tree or any of those plants in India or punjabi…very sorry to break it to Vic Sarin. Two extras looked directly into the camera in the market scene and smiled. Complete and total overuse to the point of dilution of the Mustard field scenes–okay it’s beautiful I get it, Vic. I get it. Highly doubt an intelligent/wise protagonist would run across a border with his son. So wait…lets get this straight…the protagonist a devout Sikh who prays to his pictures every single night and reads from his bible converts to Islam without a second thought for love, then runs across a heavily armed border with his son, making him the most selfish and stupid man alive, only to talk very politely to the man who is holding his wife hostage…and leaves the scene with hardly a fight or another word. Serious character flaws and inconsistencies. So hey…if you like to see mustard fields ad-infinitum, you like actors looking directly at the camera, and you respect characters that are the village wise man and idiot all in the same breath…go see Partition.
Thanks for posting these Raj, and thanks for attending! After everyone left I had a very generous donation from an individual who stayed behind, and as a result I raised $2900!! It was a great night and I am now committed to raising $10000! Thanks again! Steven
Two Alderman getting going head over heals – they both get my vote for being such good sports!
(Editor’s note: the respondent used a fake e-mail address to post this comment, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Also, this Raj is not to be confused with Raj Taneja, President of Urban Mixer.)
Thank you all for coming out and for your support of InspireHealth. It was wonderful to see you!

lululemon athletica raises $70,000 for InspireHealth
Masked revelers celebrate into the night at the 6th Annual Flip Flop Soiree
Vancouver, B.C., August 14, 2007 – Decked in masks, sequins, painted faces and flip flops, supporters of InspireHealth sipped martinis and watched fire spinners well into the night last Friday on the lawns of a local Shaughnessy home.
Originally started in lululemon founder Chip Wilson’s backyard, the sold out gala has moved to a larger venue that held over 450 people.
“We are always blown away by the support and energy that lululemon puts into this event,” says Dr. Hal Gunn, InspireHealth co-founder, “It is moving to see so many people in one place who are passionate about reinvigorating our healthcare system.”
Guests mingled with pomegranate martinis and tasty Cactus Club food while perusing the tables of silent auction items. Emcee’s Sarah Bartock and Buzz Bishop from Crave 95.3FM entertained guests and raffled items that included an exclusive dinner with Chip, a trip to Boston to see a Red Sox game and a week long trip to Mexico.
All proceeds from the event are donated to InspireHealth. $25 buys a yoga mat for one of the meditation/yoga classes for 1 patient; $75 supports a person to go through a 2 day seminar to aid their loved ones; $100 buys supplies for a cooking class of 10 patients; $375 supports one patient through the 2 day seminar; and $1000 buys 2 outreach presentations in the community to strengthen awareness of the center.
“Many of us have lost friends and family to cancer,” says Chip Wilson, “It is important that we complement the current system of healthcare with proactive methods that integrate mind, body and spirit.”
lululemon athletica is a yoga-inspired athletic apparel company that creates components for people to live longer, healthier and more fun lives. By producing products that keep people active and stress free, lululemon believes that the world will be a better place. Mike Wood sent out a Thank You last week.. the lottery was completely sold out thanks to his efforts!
Thank you.
Last week I sent out an email titled “Desperossa” – essentially begging you to buy a ticket to help us raise funds for the YWCA Single Mother’s Services of Vancouver. As of last Thursday, we had sold only 620 out of a total of 1988 available tickets.
I’m proud to tell you that we succeeded – not only did we reach the break even point – but were able to sell each and every ticket! Thank you so much, as your generous purchases helped us raise over $100,000 for the YWCA! We had so much help – thank you for passing this on to your friends, calling in your purchases, harassing your friends to buy, posting my email in the washroom at Global TV above the urinal – whatever! Thank you for everything that you did.
I must add a very special thank you to John Lefebvre, who graciously offered to purchase each and every outstanding ticket at the close of ticket sales – he purchased all remaining 786 tickets, a whopping $78,600 worth! Without his support, we would have fallen well short of our goal – thank you so much.
Even given John Lefebvre’s tremendous odds, the Ferrari was won by a loyal auto/ONE client: Napoleon Veltri – how fitting, an Italian! Congrats, Napper – now come pick up your new sled!
Now the hard work begins – I’ve got a lot of cars to wash…
Cheers,
Mike Wood

“Sukiyaki” is a food court find, and Caffe Artigiano has a new home (?) – [...] down to get my SSHRC grant application done (mission accomplished!), but in addition I read this tantalizing piece from “Urban Mixer” about how Caffe Artigiano is opening here in October at “6th Avenue and 3rd Street SW.” [...]
Ahh thanks! Caffe Artigiano’s President, Mr Mounzer, informs me that the location will resemble Vancouver’s Hastings location with big windows, high ceilings and the likes. It will be good to enjoy delectable coffee there.
I got a follow up e-mail from Philippa – looks like she and Betina raised a fair bit for the cause. Good on them!
Hi Raj,
I’m not sure if I emailed you but wanted to let you know we raised just over $10,000 on Thursday. Thanks for all your help with getting it out into the community – it’s greatly appreciated.
I hope you and your fiancee had an enjoyable evening.
The Society is asking for photos from the event, is there any chance you could forward the photos to me? Or can I pull them from the site?
Cheers,
Philippa

I purchased some Rickard’s White Ale in the 12 bottle taster Pack distributed by Molson,s.
The 4 bottles of White each had 1/4 inch of black crud on the bottom of the bottle. A gentle pouing produced a dark cloudy appearance with small black pieces of ? swimming in the glass.
I phoned Molson from the number on the bottle and spoke to “John” a Customer Rep. He said that was normal for that beer.? Could that be true — or could it be to long on the shelves. I have read about Belgian White ale – could not find reference to Black cloudy White Ale.? I felt quite sick afterwards.
Would apprecriate your thoughts on this.
Many Thx.

Mike Relm is the best! I was there at the Commodore Ballroom near the stage that night! I was sooooooooo close to taking a picture with him! I’m so jealous of the first girl who got to take a picture with Mike! I was right beside her! =P I’m definitely gonna see Mike again the next time he comes to Vancouver!
well i have read all the comments about the movies ,its true there have been movies made on the same theme ,first one was of gurdas mann i dont remember the name of the film, second was (gadar) sunny deol, all had the same theme ,but each movie had a different point of view from the director . I think Mr Vic has done justice to the film, actors have acted well in the movie .i think we should give him a credit for making such a movie without any bolloywood masalas and delivering the message.
but i would recommend people to watch other 2 movies also ,each has there own falvour.

About Giffard
It all began during the very hot summer of 1885…
Emile Giffard was a dispensing pharmacist and neighbour of the “Grand Hotel” in Angers, in the Loire Valley. However, he was no mere chemist. Inventive, curious and gourmet, he undertook research on the digestive and refreshing properties of mint. He thereby invented a pure, clear and refined white mint liqueur which he tested with the Grand Hotel’s customers, in order to relieve them from heat. Success came at once. Emile changed his pharmacy into a distillery and called his liqueur MENTHE PASTILLE, referring to the mint sweets very famous at that time.
Four generations later, Giffard & Co, still in the hands of the Giffard family, produces, beside Menthe Pastille, “Crèmes de fruits”, liqueurs, Guignolet, Fruits in brandy and syrups. Quality has been their watchword all this time.

Hello,
I suppose my comment that “Director tried to cash upon anti muslim sentiment is not right” I apologies for it but I still believe the movie is a c grade and director has done great injustice to the great story. I’m not arguing that he is not good director.
Thanks,
Sarabjit Mann
I too just got a batch from the Liquor store in Cumberland B.C. I had one white ale last night and never noticed the black crud floating around in it. Today I was about to drink another when my wife noticed the black gunk floating around in it and she kind of freaked out. I usually get the mixed beer with the pale ale and saw that this was new. It says it is unfiltered so I imagine it is just the fermented wheat so if that can be verified I’ll drink it.
As the owner of Sisley who brought in Armin, I think the event was great and i think the author should get her facts correct, as the fashion show started when carry (the dj) started and the delays were due to technical problems. Also this was not a tantra event it was just held there and it was done completley by me and my staff.
Thank you for the commentary and the correction. For the record, from my discussion with our reporter who came onsite, no media liaison was available to speak to at the event and availability of a press release, even at this time, over a month after the event would be helpful.
Per the comment posted by ’sisley,’ we’d like to acknowledge that the fashion show was not produced by XL Entertainment, it was (partially) promoted by them. The show was produced by Calgary’s Sisley location. There was no mention of Tantra being involved in the production of the event (see above).
Items that I’m confident on based on discussions with the reporter:
- Show started over an hour late (due to ‘technical difficulties’)
- Show lasted approximately or close to ten minutes
- No contact information was available for Sisley at the event
- Armin Van Buuren’s entourage wasn’t very friendly
haven’t you been posting this position for a long time? haven’t you found someone for this yet? all commission based? what are the chances that anyone would want to do that???!
Yup, we’ve had this posted for a while, at the same time, I’m not about to take the first person who walks through the door. We’re in no hurry to hire – and I can wait to the right person indefinitely.
And thanks for clarifying re: commission, the position is built to suit the candidate’s needs and expertise.

Sam Sullivan referred to ‘the rubber chicken’ in his discussion with Sharad. From Wikipedia:
The term “rubber chicken” is used disparagingly to describe the food served at political or corporate events, weddings, and other gatherings where there are a large number of guests who require serving in a short timeframe. Chicken, pre-cooked, is held at serving temperature for some time and then dressed with a sauce as it is served. Consequently the chicken meat is tough or “rubbery.”
Someone who “travels the rubber chicken circuit” is said to do so by attending or making speeches at many such gatherings, often as part of political campaigning.
Andrew Bainbridge is an outstanding artisan. He has worked with the best painters and sculptors in North America and this exhibition is historical in its authenticity revealing Eastern Woodland Native Art. The Exhibition is outstanding and I hope to see more!
I purchased the Taster’s Pack as well and am concerned about the Original White Ale product . The cloudy whiteness does not concern me greatly but the large flakes of Black debris accumulating on the bottom does look ominous indeed. Today I called the 1 800-molsons for some enlightenment on the more than white ale and was informed that the number had been changed to 1 888 634 7274 which was answered by a young lady that said this number has nothing to do with Molson’s.
If anyone can enlighten me on this becoming more cloudy product and issue it would be appreciated.
If a specific comment about one of our products, please provide as much product detail as possible below, and we’ll give you a call back to gather all the facts and respond quickly to your concerns. Or you can always give us a call at 1-800-MOLSON1 (Canada) or 1-877-MOLSON1 (United States), Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Of course, I may stand corrected and will have to check this lead out…

Best way to become an auto journalist is to know the editor and be at the right place at the right time – or at least for smaller publications.
For larger publications, right place at the right time still applies but they usually won’t look at you unless you have a degree, have the credentials (usually from volunteer writing gigs), are a part of the union and have all the bases covered.
In this case, I know Michael to have a true passion for cars and he’s a darn good writer. At the same time, I know of a car dealership which is amenable to having us take their cars for the sake of editorial. Of course, I put my butt (and credit rating) on the line for every article as well.
So, if you know a car dealer who’ll loan you the vehicles, an editor who’ll publish you, you’re good writer, I’d say you’re set!

I just watched the movie from a cable network here in the Philippines. I loved the movie and it moved me with regards to the situation of innocent people as victims of religious intolerance. The director recreated history in his movie. The message is clear that peace can be attain with love. I recommend it to young people, who are not much acquainted with history. We could learn and extract lessons from this movie. It is really address to ouer generation that mistakes from the past shall not be repeated and that hope will prevail just like the hope of bright for the cute child in the film. Honestly, I also find the child cute and endearing. he acted very well for his age.
I hope there will be more movies with content like this. Congratulations to the director and his staff for a very beautiful and excellent film.
In BC, unless you have a liquor primary license, you cannot name your establishment about something that insinuates you sell booze rather than food.
The authorities like to push around the little guy – places like Moonshine, for example, were bullied into changing their name to Six Acres. There’s countless other citations.
Keeping the above in mind, Tequila Kitchen refers to regional Mexican cuisine. Tequila is an area in Mexico close to or surrounding the town of Tequila.
Your host needs some serious training.
Way too many “okay guys”"now” “ahhhhhh’s” “ummmmmms” and he picked his eye on camera.
His hands are waving all over the place, up above his waist…very distracting.
Very very amateur!!!
Shame, because there is a alot of good information on in the show.
Yeah, this is normal for this type of beer. To drink it properly, you should pour it in a pint glass. With about 2cm of beer left in the bottle, shake it, or swirl it rather, to get the sediment from the bottom of the bottle. Then pour the rest into the glass. Garnish with an orange or lemon (rickards = orange) Most of these wheat beers are fermented in the bottle, which yields the sediment. Enjoy!
Everyone would have been so much familiar about the movie ‘Cocktail’ starring Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown. In that one can know about the way they mixed and served drinks which is known as flare blending. They learned their moves from the original flare bartending competition winner, John ‘JB’ Brady.
Patty and company also took some great photos that night… here’s the flickr stream titled ‘Crossfit Vancouver “Sailors and Pin-ups” party’: http://flickr.com/photos/...
Vancouver Mixologists Represent Canada in France
for Giffard International Competition
For Immediate Release
May 22, 2008 (Vancouver, BC) – It is a sign of Vancouver’s excellence in the arts of food and drink that both of the competitors Canada is sending to this year’s prestigious Giffard International Competition in France are local talent. Brian Grant of Yew Restaurant & Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel and Josh Pape of Chambar Belgian Restaurant will compete in the prestigious Giffard Cocktail Challenge in Anger, France on May 26, 2008.
Giffard liqueurs and syrups are known worldwide as the high-quality ingredients in some of the world’s best cocktails. The annual Giffard International Competition is a chance for bartenders from various countries including Germany, England, Sweden, Poland, Slovenia and Canada to exercise their creativity and innovation.
The portion of the International Competition in which Josh and Brian will compete is called the Giffard Cocktail Challenge. It is an improvisation competition. One hour before the beginning of the Challenge the competitors will draw lots to determine which Giffard liqueur they will have to include in their creation. The competitors will then have one hour to create their recipe. The drinks will be judged on both taste and presentation.
Both men bring an abundance of talent and experience to the international competition. Brian Grant has been bartending since age 19, and has worked at a range of establishments from busy nightclubs to elite cocktail bars. Josh Pape started his career at Vancouver’s Chambar but took advantage of an opportunity to work with award-winning mixologists in Australia for a year. He has earned praise and accolades at numerous competitions, and now is Chambar’s bar manager. Brian won first place and Josh second place at the Canadian Giffard Iron Mixology Event in September of 2007, earning the privilege of competing in France this May. They will leave for France on Thursday, May 22. Good luck fellas!!!
Received a text message from my buddy, Bruce, about his birthday get together at The Modern in Gastown, Vancouver on the upcoming Saturday. I’m not into the nightclub scene but I figured why not? It had been almost a year since I’ve been to one, and it’d be great to hang out with my friend on his birthday, especially when it had been awhile since I last saw him.
My boyfriend, Kristian, and I drove down to Vancouver from our home in Squamish. For those of you that don’t know, Squamish is between Vancouver and Whistler, and takes about an hour to get to from downtown Vancouver. We are avid rock climbers and Squamish is the place to be for outdoor enthusiasts. Nevertheless, a night out in the city sounded really appealing to us, and we were really looking forward to having a great evening. Yay, dancing with my boyfriend! We have been going out for over nine months now and haven’t yet gone out dancing together before.
The night started at Six Acres, where we drank some beer and shared some laughs as we did some catching up with Bruce and his friends. Soon after we started lining up at the VIP lineup at The Modern. The girls got in in about half an hour and the boys about forty minutes.
Kristian and I started out with a shot of Tequila, followed by hitting up the dance floor with Bruce and his friends. We were having a blast and after forty minutes of dancing Kristian and I decided to take a break. We found a series of empty sofas. We walked towards one of them only to be intercepted by a beefy guy in black. He simply looked at us but we quickly figured that we had to pay to sit on one of these numerous empty sofas. OK, fine. The Tequila made me thirsty. I wanted a glass of water. We stood by the bar, waiting for our chance to ask a bartender for a glass of water. As we stood there waiting, I rested my head on Kristian’s chest as he held me in his arms (yeah, he’s pretty tall) and I closed my eyes. I was so comfortable I felt like I could doze off. Before I knew it, a doorman came from amongst the crowd of people at the bar and escorted us out, telling us we had to leave, that I was too wasted. Kristian tried to convince this guy that I was OK, that we just wanted a glass of water. The doorman, whose nametag says Johnny, insisted that I was too wasted to stay in the nightclub. Bewildered, I objected and insisted that he test me, to which he refused to do so. “No, no. Really. Test me! Tell me to stand on one foot, or walk in a straight line, or whatever! I’ll show you that I’m not wasted! I was simply resting my head on my boyfriend!” was my response. Johnny started walking away from us and we tried to grab him. “Don’t touch me,” he said. “Wait two seconds.” We stood outside the door, outside the three lineups of club-goers waiting to get in, as we watched Johnny herd different groups of people into the appropriate lineup. I was so upset I was soon in tears and began ranting on and on about how I did not spend $18 to enter a nightclub only to be kicked out forty minutes upon entering, that this “ultra contemporary” nightclub is a piece of shit, that all I wanted to do was to have fun with my friends, that there wasn’t anything wrong with resting my head on my boyfriend with my eyes closed, etc., etc. But I eventually kept my mouth shut because reasoning with Johnny wasn’t getting me anywhere, so I tried to remain calm despite my frustration. Fifteen minutes later, I convinced Johnny, again, that I was not wasted. Seeing that I was behaving myself, he let me back in. We went back inside with the intention of continuing on with the dancing but we were no longer in the mood for that anymore. I was still fuming, and I didn’t want Johnny to get away with what he did and leave it all behind him with a shrug of his shoulders. We went back outside where I got Johnny’s last name: Cantiveroy. I got Johnny Cantiveroy to write down his name for me. By then I was in tears, again, and I explained to him how upset I was, that yes, I admit I was buzzed from the alcohol, but I was not anywhere near wasted and blah, blah, blah. My ranting went on. Johnny Cantiveroy was listening, but did he register anything I said? His eyes were continuously darting left, right, and centre as I talked to him. Frustrated, I suggested he get some distraction training. Johnny said, “Listen. You appeared wasted and then you acted belligerent with me.” “Well, wouldn’t you be pissed off if I kicked you out?!” I believed that I had not acted aggressively towards him, and I certainly did not threaten nor shout at him. I had raised my voice at him, yes, but I was so pissed off! Anyway, needless to say, our argument went absolutely nowhere.
So what is my objective of writing this up? Well, an apology from Johnny Cantiveroy would be nice. He ruined my night. An apology from The Modern nightclub would be really nice as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get neither of these.
Obviously I am still fuming. I don’t like to hold a grudge, but I can’t help thinking back to this and feeling like I was treated unfairly. I may be overreacting, and am probably taking this too seriously, but people should have the opportunity to stand their ground and voice their opinions!
Sorry to hear about this unfortunate incident. I’ll follow up directly with you via email on how to get in touch with Johnny and others at DHM.
PS – Johnny’s job is to take care of the club’s VIPs – he needs to keep on top of this at all times as his job is to divert people away from the regular door staff which is why he’s consistently keeping an eye on what’s going on. He doesn’t intend any disrespect.
Right. Thanks.
Forgot to mention:
The price of drinks was steep. The music was not so good but tolerable. The cover charge was steep ($18 per person). And I was treated unfairly. Would I go back? Not even if they pay me to, but I’ll probably go if they point a gun to my temple.
They’ve just lost two customers. Hopefully word of mouth will help them lose more than just us.
Vancouver Mixologist Earns Second Place Honours at Giffard International Competition in France
For Immediate Release
June 4, 2008 (Vancouver, BC) – Josh Pape of Vancouver’s Chambar Belgian Restaurant has been awarded second place at the prestigious Giffard International Competition. The competition was held in Anger, France on May 26, 2008. It included 16 talented mixologists from Germany, England, Sweden, Poland, and France.
Josh Pape and fellow local mixologist Brian Grant of Yew Restaurant & Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel were selected to represent Canada in this year’s international competition. They took part in the Giffard Cocktail Challenge, an improvisation competition in which participants draw lots to determine which Giffard liqueur they are required to include in a cocktail of their creation and have one hour to develop a recipe. Drinks are judged on both taste and presentation. Josh Pape won second place for a recipe he created featuring Giffard Vanilla Madagascar.
The placing cocktail developed by Josh Pape in one hour is called Le Thé Du Démon. Grant’s cocktail, named Pacifica, also featured Giffard Vanilla Madagascar and did very well in the competition.
Giffard Vanilla Madagascar is a brand new product in the Giffard family of fine liqueurs and syrups and is now available in Canada. It is made exclusively from natural Madagascar vanilla, known for its warm, intense character. It joins such popular flavours as Pink Grapefruit Liqueur, Amandes Cognac, and Crème de Peche.
Pape started his career at Vancouver’s Chambar but took advantage of an opportunity to work with award-winning mixologists in Australia for a year. He has earned praise and accolades at numerous competitions, and currently works as Chambar’s bar manager.
First place at the Giffard Competition was awarded to a barman from Germany, and third went to a participant from England.
Both Josh and Brian are available for interviews upon their return to Canada the week of June 9th, 2008. Please contact Dana Harris to arrange interviews or request recipes.

“We envisioned a restaurant that would complement this neighborhood, in a space that would showcase simple comfort food,” says Proprietor, Emad Yacoub.

I think it’s inappropriate to spam every online outlet with your complaint. It strikes me that rather than seeking a resolution to this incident, your reasoning for citing these concerns is more malicious intent – ie to damage DHM’s business.
I don’t even think you gave the organization a chance to respond – rather you posted this up and then informed them of the damage you had done.
The way you have addressed this situation shows lack of maturity and clarity.
This weekend I brought the item up with the folks at the bar – because I am concerned for the wellbeing of those I may direct to these establishments.
I confirmed with a number of first hand witnesses to the event that you appeared to be intoxicated and not only that, you were swearing, belligerent and yelling (hands waving) at Johnny. The club also has pretty good video surveillance which is there to protect the patrons and ownership.
You should know that when you cease to deal with others with integrity, nasty things can happen.
If VPD were present during this situation, you could have been arrested for being drunk in a public place.
Additionally, the manner in which you have approached this situation after the fact can get you sued.
Next time you decide to party, I suggest you do it within to confines of your own home. Liquor is best enjoyed responsibly – the labels should bear ‘not for jackasses.’
I certainly hope that you and Kristian didn’t drive back to Squamish that night either! That would be reckless.
Dear Raj,
Your means of “spam” is highly subjective.
The more I try to defend myself and reason with you people, the more frustrated I get. This is not getting anywhere.
As the saying goes, what comes around goes around. I need not to be as offensive as you are in order to make a point across.
And nope, the “organization” never responded to my emails. Why?? This issue is probably not worth their time and effort. At least posting my opinion online is worth MY time and effort, no?
I have not done any damage. I simply notified the public of what they are spending their $18 cover charge for.
I confirmed with a number of first hand witnesses to the event that that was a waste of $18, and that I was treated unfairly. In fact, a passerby pointed out to me that I should have gotten an apology upfront, plus a refund.
I suggest you have your morality sorted out before you hurt other’s feelings.
I was not drunk. I was very, very, VERY pissed off; and I believe you would be, too, if you had a similar situation as I had.
Kristian and I got home fine. It wasn’t so reckless after all. Why was that? BECAUSE I WAS NOT DRUNK, DAMNIT! I was simply really, really, really pissed off at meatheads and the inability to reason with them.
Thanks, Raj, for your feedback. You’re only doing yourself more harm than good by saying what you had said. And it’s funny too. I will make sure I share this with others.
To Johnny Cantiveros: how about next time, you give a friendly tap on the shoulder with a “Is everything OK?” rather than abruptly grabbing someone by the elbow and escorting them out without a reason? That sounds more legitimate, eh?
You both traveled a considerable distance from Squamish. Drank at Six Acres, then came to the Modern, possibly had more drinks, although I can only confirm on the shot of Tequila at the Modern. You were tired (as you proclaim) – I can only believe that your companion was also tired… beer and Tequila does that to me too!
Oh, then you drove home? Back to Squamish?
ARE YOU NUTS?!
Half a shot of any alcohol can impair one’s judgment. The shot of Tequila you had is sufficient to have you proclaimed intoxicated in the eyes of the law.
NEVER get behind the wheel of a vehicle after having even ONE DRINK. This is irresponsible. You can KILL people. Innocent people – kids.
You want me to believe that the Company acted inappropriately when you were, in essence, refused additional service? I can imagine if your little ‘event’ were allowed to continue – we’d read about yet another tragedy on the highway.
Nay, I say. I thank DHM for keeping an eye out for the well being of their guests.
Ooh, here you are, changing the subject. Now you’re coming after me about drinking and driving. You are assuming all sorts of nonsense, aren’t you? Perhaps you should think thoroughly before you speak.
First off, were you even there?
Second off, stop trying to sound sympathetic. You’re trying to sound concerned. You’re only trying to cover up for those meatheads.
Third off, you don’t even have a clue about the time lapse between the drinks and driving. Kristian and I shared a glass of beer. Two hours later we had a shot of Tequila. Two hours later, we ate. An hour later, we drove home.
You crack me up. You continue to make assumptions. Your BIASED opinions don’t do you any good. As I’ve mentioned, I was merely voicing my opinions. If you dislike freedom of speech, well, you should have your morality sorted out.
Anyway, you might think differently had you actually been there and not listened to only the “confirmed number of first hand witnesses”, who, I gather, were the staff at The Modern, including Johnny Cantiveros? Had you actually been in my situation you would not have said what you had said.
Why do I even bother arguing with you? Reread what you just wrote. This is ridiculous! Why don’t you open your eyes, read other people’s reviews and go about defending The Modern there at http://www.martiniboys.com/Vancouver/The-Modern-nightlife.html.
Say as much as you want to say about me. Continue throwing daggers at me. Nothing’s going to change the past, and nothing’s going to stop me from voicing my opinions, however “malicious” they are!
I wasn’t there but I feel your approach is more the side of wanting to cause damage to DHM’s business rather than wanting to resolve the issue with them.
Good luck in your endeavors. I believe at this point, we agree to disagree about your behavior that evening.
I just heard about the Komakino concept recently (I know, I’m “behind”, but man-fashion is not my specialty) and it was so bizarre to me that I immediately got an article written for my blog about it!

While attending the World Urban Forum a couple of years ago, I was shocked to hear how people in developing countries were asking for a small amount of money and were being denied solely on that fact they were asking for too little. The administration costs within these organizations, to process such a small loan, would be greater than the loan itself. Therefore, they were closing their doors on those most in need.
Micro credit is an inspiration, and it’s good to know that charities like the Rose Foundation are doing this locally. As a business owner and designer it’s fulfilling to be a part of an event that tastefully showcases local designers and helps those far away in need.
Kate Hudson’s on again off again beau Owen Wilson was spotted last night at the chic ‘see-and-be-seen’ Opus Bar in Vancouver’s world-renowned Opus Hotel. A savvy and fashionable Yaletown crowd flocked to Opus Bar’s ‘On The List’ VIP event, featuring international celebrity DJ Diamond, creative cocktails by Bar Manager Dave Swan, and canapés by Executive Chef Don Letendre. Wilson, known for his shaggy blond hair, blue eyes, and hilarious box office roles is a self proclaimed troublemaker. He and a British actor pal partied and made new friends while enjoying the atmosphere of Opus Bar’s iridescent lighting, designer furniture and shimmer screens. Owen Wilson and co-stars Ben Stiller and Amy Adams are in Vancouver filming Fox’s Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian, which is in production here until September 23, 2008.

GREY GOOSE Pour Masters, a select group of the top bartenders from across the Country, were asked to submit a recipe for an innovative martini cocktail using either GREY GOOSE Original Vodka or L’Orange Vodka, which was judged by Dimitri Lezinska, the Grey Goose Global Brand Ambassador. Born in Paris and based in London, Lezinska is keenly aware of mixology trends and tastes around the world. A short list of semi-finalists competed for top mixologist kudos in regional competitions held in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal where local judges were taken from venue to venue to watch the Pour Master create the cocktail, and sip and savour. They rated the cocktails on the basis of originality, flavour, balance and visual appeal. Pour Masters were rated for creativity, inspiration, knowledge of trends and for the vibe they could create in their venue.

Yikes. Perhaps leave the car reviewing to people who know the business.. calling a bargain basement 5-series “an exciting ride” with “an almost turbo-like rush of top end power” is laughable to anyone with a teensy bit of knowledge. Not to mention that you’re basically functioning as an extension of auto/ONE’s advertising arm.. why not just link to some classified ads?
@Zendependant – that’s not the point. If we felt the car reviewers of the world were independent, we’d trust and respect their reviews. Instead, they seem to be geared to the aficionado seeking to one-up each other.
Our views are based on an enthusiast, not an expert, reviewing real-world and available vehicles – it’s a completely different spin on the process.
As for auto/ONE – we work with a number of dealerships – it’s only right for us to give a little bit of respect and even love to the people who make reviews like this possible. To think that the person reading the column doesn’t know the difference is what I would say is laughable – our reader is intelligent, discerning and wants to have a decent take on vehicles.
As for the 530i, I’ve driven the car over an extended period. It’s a respectable vehicle and drives decent.
FYI – the writer of this column, Michael Schratter, drives a new M-Coupe. He’s also loves his bikes and speed – perhaps a little too much.
I agree, the 530i isn’t an M5. As part of our research, one of the first vehicles that Michael drove was the top-of class BMW M5. During the course of our road tests, we also took a Bentley Continental GT Coupe and a Maserati Quattroporte to task. If the writer states that the car is exciting to drive, I believe him. He’s not only credible, but he’s actually taken this and a dozen other cars through a series of tests and has written his conclusion based on that.
Other info that may be pertinent – the vehicles were mostly tested in the summer in Vancouver BC. This is important to note since we’re at sea level and the air is slightly humid. Results may vary in different locales at other altitudes. I note, for example, a former vehicle, an 1999 1/2 Audi A4, performed differently in Vancouver than in Calgary.

SAUZA® Tequila ANNOUNCES DJ SHREDDER MC OF QUEBEC AS WINNER OF
THE SAUZA® DJ MIX OFF CHALLENGE
SAUZA TEQUILA ALSO DELIVERS “FRESH AND UNEXPECTED” NEW PACKAGING
Toronto, Ontario, October 2, 2008– DJ Shredder MC of St. Lucien, Quebec wins the Sauza DJ Mix Off Challenge that ran online all summer long in search of fresh and unexpected new talent.
“We teamed up with MySpace and Stanton DJ Equipment to host the contest virtually across Canada,” said Franco Timpano, Brand Manager of Sauza Tequila for Maxxium Canada. “The competition successfully extended to Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver where each participant created their own set and posted them on their MySpace profile.”
The winner, DJ Shredder MC (Jean-Francois Jacques), quickly became recognized in the 1990’s rave scene for his eclectic style and dynamic sets known for sampling with vocals and with old classics of the 1980’s. He was also one of the first to use filters while spinning live. With an extremely strong collection of 10000 vinyl records and compact discs, he began composing his own pieces. In 2005 he published the album “Ground”. Recently he released ET “Eclektika”, with an electronic house sound available for downloading at http://www.isound.com/dj_shredder_mc. Dj Shredder MC won this summer’s Sauza Tequila DJ Mix Off Challenge and promises to tour with his new material to keep his nightlife fans dancing.
The standard shot of tequila is about to get a whole lot more interesting, as Sauza® Tequila also unveiled its new “Fresh and Unexpected” marketing campaign for Sauza Blanco and Sauza Gold earlier this year. The campaign includes a striking new package design, and challenges the category through an emphasis on refreshment, mixability and completely new drinking experiences that make that standard shot of tequila taste bland by comparison.
To complement the new campaign, Sauza® Tequila commissioned Chicago-based design firm Akimbo to rejuvenate their existing packaging for a cleaner, sleeker label design that maintains the heritage and quality of this respected brand. The “Fresh and Unexpected” campaign supported with trade advertising, product tastings and point-of-sale items began this May 2008.
The new positioning will challenge consumer expectations of tequila and deliver a refreshing change from the same old tequila experiences with a focus on taste, quality, and variety. For tequila lovers who have just savoured shots in the past, Sauza recommends adding chocolate or grapes to the shooter experience:
The Sauza Holy Mole Shooter
Mexicans love bittersweet chocolate. They put it in hot and savoury sauces so it’s not surprising that tequila was a natural extension.
Put a piece of dark chocolate in your mouth.
Let the chocolate melt on your tongue.
Drink a chilled shot of Sauza Tequila Gold.
The Sauza Vineyard Shooter
Choose ripe and juicy red, green or black seedless grapes for a flavourful blend.
Put a grape in your mouth.
Bite the grape and keep it in your mouth.
Drink a chilled shot of Sauza Tequila Blanco and let the grape and tequila mix together.
And as if that medley wasn’t enough, Sauza has introduced two new flavours to be tempted by, with Mango and Acai Berry. A nation-wide in-bar sampling program began in May and runs through to October.

Savory Coast has closed – Romy Prasad is now at the helm of So.Cial:
Notice of Appointment
Food, Beverage and Hospitality
October 24, 2008, Vancouver, BC
Maureen Fleming, managing partner, proprietor of So.Cial at Le Magasin, along with business partners Bob McCammon and Kirk McLean, is pleased to announce that Romy Prasad, one of British Columbia’s most respected Chefs, has joined their team.
“Romy”, says Maureen Fleming “is one of Vancouver’s gems. His cuisine is exceptional and his ability to be part of a team while leading it has ensured operations he has worked with have won accolades and great success. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him at So.Cial”
A great chef plays such a huge role in the success of a restaurant, not just from his or her techniques but also from his thoughtful and ethical choices in purveyor’s and ingredients as well as his passion for the food. Romy continues to meet with his fishers, farmers, hunters and producers to ensure and develop both quality in his products and relationships with his purveyors. “Soon”, says Chef Prasad, “new products will fill the butcher shop windows and coolers, new varieties of oysters, clams, mussels will be on the Oyster Bar menu and I am looking forward to the menu we will be launching in the dining room in a few weeks time”
About the Chef – Romy was born in Guyana, moving as a youngster to Vancouver with his family. In 1989 he enrolled in the Stratford Chef School and moved to Ontario. He graduated three years later in 1991 and went on to Europe for further studies at the Ritz Escoffier Cooking School in Paris. From there he embarked on an extensive working tour (stages) of Europe that took him to the stoves of several Michelin-starred kitchens in France, Spain, and Italy including Pierre Gagnaire in St. Etienne, Arzak in San Sebastian, and Al Cantuccio in Arona. At Il Naturlista in Vicenza Prasad studied the serious intricacies of vegetarian fine dining.
He was introduced to a more contemporary style of cooking while working at the Quilted Giraffe in New York City before returning to Ontario, first as Sous-chef to Chef Baxter at Rundles, then as chef instructor at his alma mater, the Stratford Chef School. In 1996 Prasad was appointed Operations Chef, responsible for the opening of Farfalle, the first fine dining restaurant in Casino Niagara. With his stamp on everything from the subtle Mediterranean decor to the menus and wine list, Farfalle received the AAA/CAA Four Diamond Award just four months after opening. Prasad later joined the well known Umberto Menghi group of restaurants as Executive Chef of Il Caminetto Di Umberto in Whistler, BC, before accepting the Executive Chef position at Cin Cin Ristorante in Vancouver, where he spent the next 8 years.
In 2005, along with business partner Dee Anand, Romy opened Savory Coast. In September of 2008, with the Robson Street local rent skyrocketing, Dee and Romy had a tough decision as to whether to relocate the now well respected Mediterranean restaurant or move on and when opportunity presented itself, in the form of a chance meeting with restaurant owner Maureen Fleming of So.Cial, Romy made the decision to move on.
Today Maureen is delighted to announce that Romy takes over the stoves at So.Cial effective October 30th, 2008. We anticipate new menus in place by late November.

Located in Gastown, Vancouver’s most historic neighbourhood, So.Cial at La Magasin is housed in an 1899 heritage building. (Seismic upgrade in 1988)
Design Renovations, started in December of 2006, revealed beautiful bones in the underlying structure of the building as well as resurrecting a stunning pressed tin ceiling, giant fir support beams and a mosaic marble and concrete floor, creating a canvas for interior design by owner Maureen Fleming using antique white, black and silver with crystal and glass features back dropped by age smoothed unfinished wood. Oversized front windows onto the street-scape can be both opened and removed for European style dining.
Franz Swinton is Gibson’s Iron Bar Champion for Calgary
Calgary, AB – (October 23, 2008) Calgary gave us something to toast about when local bartenders competed against one another in the Iron Bar competition two weeks ago. The Calgary finalists went head to head in the Iron Bar competition, but only one came out victoriously and was crowned the winner for the Calgary division of Iron Bar. Franz Swinton from Raw Bar was the bartender responsible for the winning drink. Franz’s drink was named “The red and white club”, after one of the buildings in McMahon stadium. To recreate Franz’s drink, mix:
3/4 oz. Gibson’s Finest Sterling
Muddled white peach
Gastrique of Cranberry juice
Pour into shot glass
Garnish: Gibson’s finest infused white peach slice covered in powdered sugar
Franz from Calgary will be flown to Montreal to compete in the final competition, for the grand prize of $1000 or tickets to the 2008 Grey Cup. The winner will be named the Iron Bar Champion, and their drink will be crowned the “Gibson’s Cup”.
Gibson’s Finest is among the top four leading brands in the growing premium and deluxe Canadian whisky categories. The brand range consists of Gibson’s Sterling, blended whisky; Gibson’s Finest 12 Year Old, a benchmark premium Canadian whisky; and Gibson’s Finest Rare 18 Year Old, one of the longest aged Canadian whiskies. Just got the release from the Vancouver event, thought I would share. Tisdall is no longer with Boneta – stay tuned to this site to find out about his next project, first.
Boneta’s Justin Tisdall is Gibson’s Iron Bar Champion for BC
Vancouver, BC (October 10, 2008) British Columbia gave us something to toast last week as local bartenders went head to head in the Gibson’s Iron Bar competition.
The four BC finalists won great reviews from the judges but only one was crowned the winner for the British Columbia division of Gibson’s Iron Bar. Justin Tisdall from Boneta Restaurant was the bartender responsible for the winning drink. Justin’s drink was named “We Give 110″, because Canadian Football fields are 110 yards as opposed to the American 100. To recreate Justin’s winning drink recipe, mix:
2oz Gibson’s Finest Canadian Whisky
.5oz Maple Syrup
.25 oz Agave Syrup
2oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
Fresh Cracked pepper
(Shaken and double strained over fresh rocks)
Justin will be flown to Montreal to compete for the grand prize of $1000 or tickets to the 2008 Grey Cup. The winner of the final competition will be named the Iron Bar Champion, and their drink will be crowned the “Gibson Cup”.

Jan. 10/09. I have just had the same issue with the Rickard’s White Ale, a black scum-like mass in the bottom of the bottles. These were bought in Ontario for the Christmas holidays. The scum may be alright for a home brew but try to explain ‘it as ‘a natural part of the beer’ to a guest? I will contact Molsons and complain since I did not see any wording on the label as in ‘may contain sediment’, I just hope that is all it is.

Thanks for the love, Miea! I’m liking the direction that Vancouver radio is going… CBC Radio 1 on FM, The Peak and now Virgin Radio too! I wonder what other good stuff is around the corner, next.
Aside from the aesthetics of the place, which is upscale and vibrant, the service is absolutely horrendous.
The man who served us must have been a manager because he was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, barking orders and almost panicking. By the way, this was when the restaurant was empty.
The same server was completely rude, pressuring us to buy food, and scoffing when we wanted to just order drinks for the time being (after already ordering appetizers). We asked to move closer inside because of the cold draft from the door, and not only did he BRING our empty glasses to the next table, he asked me to bring my own glass of water! Our intention was to stay and buy drinks the whole night because it was their anniversary party but we actually left to go to a different restaurant for better service.
I don’t understand how this man thinks this is quality customer service. I’m sure his own expectations are high, but he falls far below them. What a waste, the place was nice.
Assuming myself to be lucky to gain admittance I was not only sorely disappointed in the film, but found it dangerously close in plot to a movie submitted to a collleague some years ago, this even contains the same character names. No names, no pack drill, but this may yet be subject of a plagiarism suit.
As for the production values: the direction was unsurprisingly amateurish (this is his first ever film), the plotting (as in the original), somewhat trite, dialogue nothing more than average, the acting predictable; Katharine Isabelle in particular is prone to rehashing bits of her previous performances, this is no exception.
With all my respect D.Hammond, those people worked really hard for this project and they are pround (as i do)of that.
Miss Katharine Isabelle and her brother joshua Murray have all my appreciation for Favorite people list.(I was not able to be there, and i regret it)
I would give my intire life just to tell Katharine(an awesome actrees)how much respect i have for her and her career same thing for Josh.
If you felt attacked by something; i’m sure that it was not their intention.
CONGRATULATION JOSHUA MURRAY AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED SISTER!!!!!
By the way, i want some excuse from you for your commentery that i found not appropriate.
Thank you

That is AWESOME! My favorite Elvis song, too.
Are you going to post the one you did at the Granville Room as well?
October 28th, 2006 at 12:43 am

October 30th, 2006 at 9:54 pm
Amen. Everyone, it seems, did their bit. Didn’t I hear that every single person there bought at least one pink ribbon pin?

I was wondering why didn’t you write a review of the movie.
January 26th, 2007 at 1:19 am
I know food, I know wine, I know events. But that’s about it. Movies, that’s another story.

February 18th, 2007 at 4:46 am
What an amazing event. Great job on the organization and was by far my favourite event I have attended so far here in Vancouver. Looking forward to you topping it in March!
February 19th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

February 19th, 2007 at 7:28 pm
What a wonderful story. It touched my heart and soul. Thumbs up performance. Story shows pain, sacrefice and one’s belief in love and do the right thing. This shows Vic’s hard work and dedication to what he believes in. I hope you have more stories to share with the world. All actors chosen were excellent and genuine. Keep up the good work Vic.
February 19th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Man, the whole Ohri posse just invaded my blog.
February 21st, 2007 at 10:07 am
So hey…if you like to see mustard fields ad-infinitum, you like actors looking directly at the camera, and you respect characters that are the village wise man and idiot all in the same breath…go see Partition.

lululemon athletica raises $70,000 for InspireHealth
Setting the bar in technical fabrics and functional designs, lululemon works with yogis and athletes in local communities for continuous research and product feedback. lululemon athletica was founded in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1998 by Chip Wilson, founder of Westbeach Sports, a skate/surf/snowboard clothing company. lululemon athletica is extending into new communities across North America and throughout the world.

September 10th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

Cheers,

Many Thx.

well i have read all the comments about the movies ,its true there have been movies made on the same theme ,first one was of gurdas mann i dont remember the name of the film, second was (gadar) sunny deol, all had the same theme ,but each movie had a different point of view from the director . I think Mr Vic has done justice to the film, actors have acted well in the movie .i think we should give him a credit for making such a movie without any bolloywood masalas and delivering the message.
but i would recommend people to watch other 2 movies also ,each has there own falvour.

December 4th, 2007 at 11:14 pm
Editor’s note:

FEB.19 2008
I purchased the Taster’s Pack as well and am concerned about the Original White Ale product . The cloudy whiteness does not concern me greatly but the large flakes of Black debris accumulating on the bottom does look ominous indeed. Today I called the 1 800-molsons for some enlightenment on the more than white ale and was informed that the number had been changed to 1 888 634 7274 which was answered by a young lady that said this number has nothing to do with Molson’s.
If anyone can enlighten me on this becoming more cloudy product and issue it would be appreciated.
Yours truly,
B Ochitwa

The sadness! I went into a Caffe Artigiano a couple weeks back and they’ve been long sold out of the Panama Esmerelda.

Well, first I checked to see if they had anything comparable. It’s not just about the bean, it’s about the whole experience. And … nothing.
… so ciao for now, Artigiano. Maybe next time.

Hi Michael,
Great article. Wow, would love to drive the M3.
Must be an amazing machine!
Just wondering, how does one get into the business
of writing articles about cars? I’m interested in
becoming an auto journalist.
Steve
March 11th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Dear Steve,
Best way to become an auto journalist is to know the editor and be at the right place at the right time – or at least for smaller publications.
Cheers,
Raj

March 20th, 2008 at 10:57 pm

June 8th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Dear Maysa,
Sorry to hear about this unfortunate incident.
June 8th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Right.

June 29th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Dear Maysa,
I think it’s inappropriate to spam every online outlet with your complaint.

July 2nd, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Maysa,
You both traveled a considerable distance from Squamish.
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Dear Raj Teneja,
Ooh, here you are, changing the subject.

Good luck in your endeavors. I believe at this point, we agree to disagree about your behavior that evening.

2007 Event – Background – how the Arbiter of Cool competition worked

October 9th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

Vancouver BC – October 8th, 2008 – Cactus Club Cafe today announced a special three course tasting menu inspired by Chef Rob Feenie for 4th Annual Taste of Yaletown, the popular dining festival running October 14th – 26th featuring offerings from a selection of the neighbourhood’s premier restaurants.
Cactus Club will be offering a selection globally-inspired, signature menu items including dishes designed by Chef Rob Feenie. The tasting menu will begin with his signature tuna tataki; seared albacore tuna accompanied by a fresh green papaya slaw with orange and avocado and finished with a sprinkling of pine nuts and drizzle of yuzu vinaigrette. An industry leader in casual fine dining, Cactus Club’s newly expanded Yaletown location is a blend of urban upscale with casual comfort amidst the neighbourhood’s trendy backdrop. On Saturday, October 25th, 10% of tasting menu sales from Cactus Club Yaletown will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society
“We are really proud to be part of Taste of Yaletown again this year,” says Richard Jaffray, Cactus Club President and CEO. “It provides an opportunity to connect with great food in a fun and accessible way as well as support those in need during this time of year.”
Cactus’ menu development has been inspired by the team’s extensive international culinary travels and features a range Chef Feenie’s new introductions. As Canada’s first “Iron Chef” and one of Canada’s most celebrated chefs, Chef Feenie has created a number of exciting, yet simple dishes for Cactus Club’s signature menu featuring fresh, quality ingredients.

Taste of Yaletown Raises Unprecedented $59,031 for Food Banks at a Time When the Help is Needed the Most
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vancouver, BC – November 25, 2008 – The Yaletown Business Improvement Association announces a record breaking year for the 4th Annual Taste of Yaletown dining event. This year a total of 22 restaurants participated to offer their guests fixed-price menus and raise $59,031.45 to fight hunger in surrounding communities.
“Yaletown has become the centre of great dining in Vancouver, and Taste of Yaletown provides an opportunity to showcase great talent and generous hearts. We are proud to be a supporter of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank,” says Annette O’Shea, Executive Director of the Yaletown Business Improvement Association.
Taste of Yaletown is a community based event organized by the Yaletown Business Improvement Association each October to showcase the dining diversity in the stylish and popular hub. A portion of the proceeds generated as a result of the event are donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank as well as the Canadian Association of Food Banks during a time of year when the support is needed most.
Each participating restaurant committed a portion of Taste of Yaletown sales to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Additionally, title sponsor, American Express, has donated $50,000 to the Canadian Association of Food Banks on behalf of multiple dining events they support throughout Canada.
The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is a non-government funded organization that helps feed over 20,000 people each week at locations in Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver and the North Shore.

Jan.
Yours, Paul Asselstine

All in all not an auspicious start

Thank you

Opinions are like….well you know – everybody’s got one! I don’t think the folks at Gemini had the same opinion about Katharine’s acting.

Random question: I was told to start a blog so that my clients or potential clients could connect with me, I am a photographer. Do you find that happening with your readers?
May 21st, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Blogs are a great way of connecting with people – fresh content is king. Plus you get to show off the best of your work.
Good luck.
