On January 28th, we checked out Miku Aburi Sushi Restaurant located on Hastings Street to try a special seven course dinner prepared by renown chef, Seigo Nakamura.
Mr. Nakamura was in town on the 27th, 28th and 29th of January to showcase his talents and to train his chefs.

On Thursday, January 29th, the Cellar Nightclub on Granville Street hosted Once Upon a Dream, a fundraiser for BC Children’s Hospital.
The goal of the evening was to purchase entertainment and toys such as portable DVD players and Nintendo DS units for kids to use during their hospital stay.
Attendees enjoyed drinks, canapes and ‘magical performances’ organized by the events team Lisa Morrish, Alison Hatton and Emily Baxter, while bidding on items including a night in the new L’Hermitage Hotel, Canucks Tickets, therapeutic massages and more with all proceeds from the evening’s entrance fee and money raised in the silent auction going to the cause. Twice annually, the Vancouver office of the CB Richard Ellis High Technology Facilities Group invites members of ACETECH, the Acedemy of Tech CEOs, for a wine social.
This year, CBRE hosted their 15th Annual Winter Wine Event at auto/ONE which is a welcome departure from their regular events at the Vancouver Club.
Guests, including David M. Hall from the prominent local biotech firm, Angiotech, political candidate Margaret McDiarmid and even the go-to person for digital media in Canada, Dr. Gerri Sinclair, rubbed shoulders with some of Vancouver’s most prominent tech CEOs while sampling through a number of wines and canapes.
In discussion, most attendees agreed that they will attend this year’s Symposium, hosted by ACETECH, in Whistler between March 4th and 6th.

On Wednesday, January 28th, First Weekend Club premiered ‘Nurse.Fighter.Boy’ at District 319 as part of their Canada Screens series.
As part of the event, there were various live performances – Ndidi Onukwulu, Chin Injeti and even some Axe Capoeira.
From the official website: Nurse.Fighter.Boy is an urban love story about the soul of a mother, the heart of a fighter, and the faith of a child.
JUDE is a single mother who descends from a long line of Jamaican caregivers. SILENCE is a ‘past his prime’ boxer who fights illegally to survive. CIEL is a boy who delves into music, conjuring dreams for his mother. During the last week of summer, a late-night brawl finds the fighter in the nurse’s care causing their three fates to be forever entwined.

On Tuesday, January 27th, local producer and author Joshua Murray, hosted a party at 1181 on Davie Street to mark the launch of his new feature, Favourite People List.
Favourite People list stars Katharine Isabel and local actors Julie Patzwald and Karen Khunkhun grace the screen as well. The event hosted a fun crowd including a number of local celebrities, Wide Mouth Mason’s Shaun Verrault included.

Virsar Media, the creators of Hot N’ Spicy, the hottest Desi Night running since 2006, hosted the successful ‘Back 2 Basics’ event at Heist (upstairs from Century House) on Friday, January 23rd.
With UK’s DJ Aftershock spinning UK Bhangra/Bollywood mashups and A-Slam.com’s DJ “E.V.” spinning a Hip-Hop/Top 40 fusion, the night blew the guests away. Special surprises included Rose Kaur up on stage pumping up the crowd and the ultra-talented Faheem Rawj and Aabid Fazal on live percussion. Rock N Rolla’ comes out on video (high-def Blue Ray for that matter) on January 27th. On Wednesday, January 21st, we got the opportunity to check out the upcoming Warner Home Video releases at Stone Temple Nightclub.
Hot, distracting body-painted girls aside, the event hosted the who’s who of media in Vancouver including TALK 1410AM’s own Joe Leary and Jennifer Thomson, all who checked out the food, the entertainment, got removable tattoos and one of the best swag bags ever, including Rock N Rolla’.
