Wild Rice Autumn Menu Launch

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

A mid-autumn Moon Festival celebration featuring canapes and cocktails with proceeds going to Friends for Life and A Loving Spoonful.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals celebrated in China. The Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated during the autumnal equinox when the moon is at its fullest. The Chinese mooncake is the traditional food served during the festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is also closely linked to the legend of two figures in Chinese mythology, the divine archer Houyi and the Chinese Goddess of the Moon, Chang’e.

The Wild Rice Autumn Menu Launch saw Wild Rice owner Andrew Wong collaborating with Chef Rob Erickson in offering a three-course menu inspired by the legend and traditions associated with the festival. Wild Rice is the brainchild of Andrew Wong who wanted to provide a fusion of local and Chinese cuisine to culinary enthusiasts across Vancouver.

Aside from providing guests with delightful canapes and cocktails, the event also served as a fund-raiser for Friends for Life and A Loving Spoonful as a $5 donation was collected at the door for both charitable institutions.

Chorizo Corn Dogs

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Chorizo Corn Dogs – that’s all I have to say. There might be hundreds of reasons to visit ‘on the Edge Pub’ which is located on the corner of Columbia Street and Cordova Street, but mine has to be the heavenly finger food distributed on their launch night, Tuesday, December 15th.

On the Edge Pub Opens

Owner George Winkler, has struggled for years with trying to make the location respectable. The former venue that occupied 303 Columbia Street was less than desirable, especially given it’s proximity to Crackville, general scum of the earth and the Insite Safe Injection place that plagues the area. The interior ain’t too shabby. It’s good to look at, the service is decent and well, they have heaven-sent chorizo corn dogs.

On the Edge Pub Opens

The current GM, Andrew Ralph has done good in the two weeks that the venue has been opened. They have DJs coming in on Fridays and Saturdays and with a live music license, the venue is sure to be a hit.

On the Edge Pub Opens

They’re not resolved on being Vancouver’s newest live music venue, though. Ralph says they’re amenable to getting feedback from regulars to shape what ‘on the Edge Pub’ will become – it’s not pretentious, it’s definitely comfortable so if the beer drinkers come, they’ll expand their beer list. If the wine drinkers or students of mixology follow, they’ll soup up the respective drink menus. Either way, ‘on the Edge Pub’ is win-win for everyone.
