Did you hear? Yaletown has a new kid on the block and they do only brows.

They may be plucky, but when it comes to eyebrows, let the experts do them. The Bombay Brow Bar in Yaletown combines a traditional Indian hair removal method with a hefty dose of Bollywood beauty.

Threading is an ancient Indian skill that removes unwanted hair all the way to the roots using a cotton thread. The person performing the threading achieves amazing precision and control, making this the best way of shaping your eyebrows.

Located on Mainland Street just across from Glowbal Restaurant, the Bombay Brow Bar is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

If one could say there was a theme for the ‘Spotlight Designer’ showcase at OPUS bar on January 21st, they’d have to say fabulously dressed people at a fabulous event.

Mavi, the renowned denim brand from Turkey, gave a sneak peek into its spring/summer ‘SS10′ collection for 2010 – twelve different looks for ladies and four for gentlemen.

The collection showcases key trends in the industry including denim on denim look, the Serena low rise super skinny jeans (also known as “jeggings”), balloon Capri, Patti boyfriend jeans, denim jackets & vest, short shorts, as well as several tie-dyed, distressed or ripped jeans paired off with studded plaid shirts.

The OPUS bar, in a surprising turn of generosity, also offered guests a taste of a sparkling wine all the way from down under. Pink, is a sparkling blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Southeastern Australia with a strawberry aroma and fruit flavors of sweet berry and lime.

Aside from the sneak peek, upcoming singer and songwriter Téa gave an exclusive performance for the guests of this invite-only event. Mavi’s SS10 collection hits the stores now.

If a good steak is the most sought-after food item known to man, then Glowbal in Yaletown definitely hit the nail on the head when they re-opened the doors to the the legendary restaurant on Thursday, January 14th.

As usual, the good people of the Glowbal Collection (owners of such fine restaurants as Coast, Sanafir, Trattoria, Society and Italian Kitchen,) know how to throw a party – this time re-launching Glowbal Grill Steaks & Satay with a new interior design, a steaked-up menu (including Australian Wagyu Beef) and, of course, Vancouver’s beautiful people.

When the restaurant opened eight years ago, Glowbal Grill and Satay Bar almost immediately became the gold standard in Yaletown’s dining scene. It established itself as one of the premier dining establishments found in one of Vancouver’s trendiest districts. For the January 14th relaunch Glowbal has raised the bar even higher.

With a much more refined interior and re-invented menu, guests are in for truly magnificent dining. The new “Meat Cellar” displays fine cuts of beef that can be butchered upon order.

The grand opening gala event had hundreds lined up out the door, hoping to sneak a peek while Vancouver’s finest mingled inside. Those who were invited to attend all agreed, the restaurant that invented Yaletown dining  has now reinvented the steak house.

Ritual Sundays are a recent fun addition to Glowbal Restaurant’s weekly programming.

On Sunday nights, Afterglow (the lounge adjacent Glowbal) comes alive. General Manger, Anthony Pratt, comes out of retirementto mix drinks and entertain while Executive Chef Erik Heck serves up fresh oysters and Dayton Turner spins the wheels.

The last Ritual Sundays that Glowbal will host is this Sunday. After that, they’re closed for renovations until after the second week of January. Dennis Pak, General Manager of Society has volunteered to keep the event going over the holidays at the Glowbal Group’s newest restaurant located just over a block away.

If you want to know who has the corner on Thai food in Vancouver, go no further than Desmond Chen.

He and his father (Patrick) own Charm Modern Thai, Thai House Restaurant, Chili House Thai Bistro, Urban Thai Bistro and Samba Brazillian Steakhouse.

Don’t ask me how the Brazillian place fits in… other than the fact that it’s, well… Brazilliant.

To the point of this story, on Monday, November 23rd, young Mr. Chen (Desmond) opened the doors of their newest property, Charm, to celebrate the restaurant passing the one year mark of being open, and to celebrate his birthday. The festivities included lots to eat, lots to drink, and a crowd that was nothing short of charming.

On Tuesday, November 17th, Erin Ganju, CEO and Co-Founder of Room to Read, captivated a small audience at Earl’s Yaletown to tell her story.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Room to Read, it’s a non-proft organization founded in 2000 by former Microsoft Exec, John Wood, and Erin Ganju.

Room to Read is a non-profit dedicated to promoting education. Founded in 2000, the organization is based on the belief that “World Change Starts with Educated Children,” and the idea that education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty in the developing world. Glowbal Restaurant Group hosted the most anticipated restaurant opening of the season with the opening of Society on Thursday, October 29th.

Located at the old Yaletown location of Coast Restaurant on the north side of Hamilton Street near Drake, the restaurant, which serves up comfort food done right, makes a valuable addition to the neighbourhood.

On their opening night, hundreds of Vancouver’s prettiest faces lined up to see what Society was all about and they weren’t disappointed.

Take some Hornitos Tequila, add a couple of warm bodies and that’s all you need. On Thursday, October 15th, a select few were invited to a nondescript location in Yaletown to try out the new lineup of Hornitos signature tequila cocktails, designed to bring out the inner Mischiever.

Shoana Jensen, Beam Global Canada’s National Mixxit Trainer, concocted some of the most mischievous cocktails we’ve ever had the pleasure of sipping. The Burlesque Beauties also came out and started their own scandal with some bad-ass burlesque.

Jeff Richards and James Upton have done it again!

Another year, another legendary Talelight night celebrating Vancouver International Film Festival at the OPUS Hotel. On Thursday, October 8th, the Richards and Upton hosted one of the more notorious VIFF events – featuring one of Vancouver’s most beautiful crowds and plenty of Grey Goose to be consumed. Women in Leadership has been around since 2001 but never before have they done an event like this. On September 24th, WIL hosted Sweet Talk, an intimate event involving chocolate, wine, and inspirational speakers from the fashion industry.

Sweet Talk was the prelude to Super Women & Friends Gala – the annual Women in Leadership Foundation celebration event.

Attendees networked and received image advice to creating the perfect look from the talented fashion stylist Leila Bani, successful entrepreneur Gina Hole, and international make-up artist Sonia Leal-Serafim.

All three ladies have demonstrated thriving success and leadership skills in their own fields. Bani worked with celebrities including Diana Krall and national brands such as Canada’s Next Top Model and Flare Magazine, Hole founded a global yet boutique-style agency, THEY, which connects artists in the fashion and advertising industries from all around the world, and Leal-Serafim boasts an impressive portfolio with clients like Fergie, Kelly Rowland, and Chatelaine.

The event was at Cossette West in Yaletown, where 100 women were given the opportunity to enjoy sweets, network, and learn how to dress for success. The main purpose of this event was to draw attention to the mentorship program, which assists young professionals to get their foot in the door, as well as assisting seasoned professionals with their management skills.
